Remington 1858 Army Black Powder Revolver, Case-Hardened Steel Finish
|
|
|
The Remington
Revolver was the only
black powder gun to
offer a challenge to
the dominant Colt
revolvers. It was
considered by many to
be every bit the gun
a Colt was, and then
some. It is said that
soldiers of the Civil
War would trade a
handful of Colts for
one Remington Army
revolver. After the
war, the Remington
outsold the Colts as
a surplus weapon
because the soldiers
had seen how the two
guns stood up side by
side to combat use.
The Remington
Revolver has a strong
solid frame that
stands up to the
abuse better than the
open-top design of
the Colt. A note from
William F. "Buffalo
Bill" Cody on Exhibit
at the NRA National
Firearms Museum
reads, "This old
Remington Revolver I
carried and used for
many years in Indian
Wars and buffalo
killing. And it never
failed me."
