Unlike in the West
where gold rules, in
Africa copper is King
and always has been.
As early as the 15th
century during the
voyage of Vasco Da
Gama, he noted the
natives love of
copper & brass
bracelets, anklets
and the like.
European Traders used
these heavy metals in
trade for African
slaves, ivory, gold
etc.
These are all
original 'Manillas'
(term refers to the
metal bracelets),
produced in France
for the African trade
all standard weight
(156 grams or 5
ounces) & size. These
are in very nice
condition.
