| | | Crusader Sword | The Crusades created
a tumultuous period
when Western armies,
inspired by the
crusading spirit,
wrestled most of the
Holy Land from the
Moslems. Holding it
was different matter,
and the Crusaders
never again matched
their initial success.
The West, still
somewhat barbaric,
learned a great deal
from their opponents,
bringing back new
knowledge from their
travels. Some
historians even
believe that the
Crusades helped
encourage a thirst
for exploration among
Europeans that
ultimately led to the
discovery of America.
The sword was a most
important part of the
Crusade, and this
example is a superb
fighting weapon. The
blade is flat, with
two narrow fullers
that both lighten and
strengthen the blade.
This is an effective
sword to deal with
mail armor. The flat
blade will deliver a
strong shearing blow
that can cut mail,
while still having
enough of a point for
effective stabbing.
Grip is wood, covered
with leather, and the
crossguard is steel.
Pommel is steel, with
a cross deeply
engraved on its face,
and surrounded by
brass rivets.
High carbon blade,
strongly tempered.
Comes complete with
leather scabbard.
Made by Windlass
Steelcrafts.
Overall length: 39";
Blade: 33" long by 1
and seven eigths
inches wide. Weight:
2.75 lbs.
